I haven't read Joshilyn Jackson in a while and devoured this book in 2 days. It helps that I'm on vacation!
The story begins with the addition of a new neighbor, Roux, at the neighborhood book club. Roux has a way of stirring up trouble...encouraging the ladies to drink and play a game similar to "Never have I ever"...which of course reveals secrets that should probably stay hidden.
Roux then has a way of exploiting those secrets for personal/financial gain. Amy is caught in her web when it is revealed that she is Roux's target all along and Amy's life as the mother of baby Oliver, the step-monster of Maddie and the best friend of Charlotte is turned inside out.

Amy Whey is just a housewife hosting a neighborhood book club . . . until new neighbor, Angelica Roux, shows up and threatens to ruin everything with a secret from Amy’s past.
Will Amy be able to keep her family and her best friend if they know her darkest secret?
This book had many twists and every time I thought I knew where it was headed, I was proved wrong!
This is a very compelling read and would be great for readers of Paula Hawkins and Laura Lippman. - Michelle V.

I could not put this book down!
I was trying to guess what would happen from one page to the next.

I want to say this is better than most offerings in the female suspense genre (if that is not a real genre, well, it is now) and it mostly is better. Until the end, where it notably falls apart and leaves the reader thinking, "excuse me, what?" I'll admit, that happens in the middle too though... Meh, it was a pretty good read overall.

I really enjoyed this and loved the Pensacola (my home town references) but I have a question. At the end if Amy had the gun and Roux had the poker how did Amy get shot? I thought that was very confusing.

SO many coincidences.
Get rid of one specifically and it would have been more believable and 4 stars.

This one kept surprising me - all the twists were like WHOA and Amy’s actions and reactions definitely kept me off balance. It was a fast, exciting read that I didn’t want to put down. I did feel mildly disappointed in the end - just some of the wrap-up and the unanswered questions - but overall highly satisfying. A great book club discussion book, too.
