This book was great, but it was hard to read. It dealt with sexual assault of people but also a small child. It also not only had animal death but animal abuse and animal murder at the beginning of the story, among other hard things to read about. So when I say it was hard to read, I mean it. Also, I hoped the villain would get a healthy dose of karma. But that didn’t go down the way I was hoping it would. I liked the book, but I didn’t love it, unfortunately.

DNF@21% No rating!

Is not included in my reading stats since I didn’t finish.

This one’s very dated (which I normally wouldn’t judge it on) but to the point that some of the dialogue and writing makes no sense. On top of that, it’s very slow. And, there’s already been animal cruelty/death, which again I’d overlook if I was enjoying the story, but I’m not. I still remain a Stephen King fan but based on what I’ve read, this one isn’t his best. Onwards and upwards!

I’ve had this book for a few years, never touching it. Brought it with me this summer to read while off-grid doing field work. I didn’t know anything about the book besides the first few pages. Coincidentally, I finished reading it a week after Trump’s attempted assassination. Weird.

Reading this 45 years after publication,  I can say it made my heart pound. Stephen King somehow managed to anticipate our political future,  and create a compelling story of the nightmare of knowing too much. His hero is cursed with an ability to read people and their pasts and futures. Others don't believe him, and he is driven to act.
I appreciated the complexity of John and the important people in his life. King takes the reader in quickly and doesn't let go. I read this in 2 days because I couldn't put it down.

Great book; at first I couldn’t figure out how all of the characters were connected to each other and the plot, but it was a great twist/surprise. King is a great writer and makes you want to keep reading. John is a great main character that you can’t help but sympathize with. Recommend for people who like science fiction mysteries/thrillers.
