As usual Temple delivers.  I never always assumed I knew so much about animals, but Temple is forever surprising me with more information.  If you have any doubts that animals are smart, feeling, wonderful creatures then you need to read her animal behavior books.

This was the best nonfiction book I’ve ever read.

Grandin reiterated points that were important but it never felt repetitive. The information was not only useful for animal caretakers, but also deeply interesting. (Maybe that was my preexisting interest in psychology, but I still think that the information is so interesting!)

One of the criticisms I’ve seen comes from other scientific experts who are critiquing the book for dumbing things down too much and for large parts being devoted to speculation instead of hard science. Without spending too much time countering this, I’ll just say this: if you came to this book as an expert in any of the scientific fields discussed in it, expecting to learn something despite the fact that people uneducated in science can understand this book, I don’t understand how you were smart enough to earn a degree.

This is an amazing read that takes complex concepts and breaks them down into easy-to-understand sections. I would recommend this for just about anyone who interacts with animals!

I found this book fascinating. You learn equally about animals, autism and the human brain. At first I got a little tired of her discussion of cows, but she soon branched into other topics. Very matter of fact writing style - not overly academic at all.

If you are interested in animals OR autism, this book is a must read.

Frustrating in its lack of detail because the ideas expressed seemed either incredibly interesting or misguided. But one was left to wonder whether one was interpreting them correctly because everything was only touched on.

I think Grandin has a habit of extending her own experience too far onto other people and beings who might not agree with the leaps she makes. But she's an engaging writer and there's lots of food for thought here.

My book club really enjoyed Temple's perspective on animal behavior. It helped me understand some of my cats' strange behaviors too.
