This was not the cure to wake me up early this am after being up late for 🥅🏒
This is Cook's latest, and it is way better than the last novel. Quick and easy read, although you have to pay attention to the various names of all of the different rival mafia members. Yep, mafia. The New York kind and the Japanese kind. Entertaining and as per usual, you learn a few things about ballistics and medical examiner stuff, so that's cool.
I like these books with the Stapeltons but this one was convoluted with medical stuff, organized crime, and Japanese organized crime and then all came together at the end in just a few pages.
Though all quite predictable and some silly, unrealistic conversations it was perhaps less steeped in science and more in suspense than some of the others.

Fun easy read, decent science. There were some parts that were kind of wordy. There's also parts of Laurie's story that scream WRITTEN BY A MAN, but not bad enough that it makes you want to stop reading.
This book is so small but when I reached the end of the book I'm like oh the stories are wrapping do I need to buy another book but no they just explained what happens to other characters and just ended the book
I really enjoyed this book--until the end because the author, to me, ended it too quickly. The resolution was less than satisfying.

I didn't finish it.
Normally I like Robin Cooks books. I didn't like his writing about the Japanese or US Mafia's. Those parts just didn't ring true. The ME parts were bogged down in the characters ambivalence about work/family balance.
I wanted to rate this a no-star, but then it looks like I didn't rate it. So, one star is the worst.
