Read in HS - pretty good airport/beach reads

The first of Cussler's Dirk Pitt novels I ever read, Shock Wave is goofy and fun like a bond movie. Don't let the horrible film adaptation of Cussler's Sahara turn you away from trying any of his books. They are historically-inspired, automobile-infused, absurd mystery thrillers. Probably a but dates now

I've been reading the Dirk Pitt series in order, from the beginning, so I am a fair bit behind long time readers. This is by far, my favorite to date. We seem to be leaving behind the cringe worthy, macho-male vibes, where women are just object to observe and disregard. I do take into account when a book is written and don't hold it against the author when the story reflects the times. But it is nice to see the deeper development of the characters as they mature.
The action and villain are up to the Clive Cussler's best standards. The surprise is in the development of real feelings between Dirk and Maeve, and the bittersweet ending of the story. I have never gone into a Cussler story expecting any kind of emotional reaction, so I was really not prepared.

Good one. By audio. A little campy at times but fun.

a long read. very detailed. Very interesting concept about how sound waves could kill so many. Overall it was good, but I felt that some parts dragged on a bit too much (like the part in the ocean). The ending could have been more profound if what was planned actually happened. A good read nevertheless.

'Good book, but you will need to be interested in historical information and stories about underwater searches and issues. There was mystery, action, love, and despair included in this book. It is the continuing saga of Clive Cusslers, Dirk Pitt series. I've been reading books about Dirk Pitt since I was in my 20's which is a long time. My first book about him was about finding the Titanic. As usual, there was a lot of adventure and some really bad people to be removed from society.

It is a book worth reading if you like adventure books.

I'm a long-time Clive Cussler fan, so I enjoyed this immensely. HOWEVER, it's not among his top Dirk Pitt novels. If I could, I'd give it 4.3 stars, but no lower.

~May have slight spoilers.~

In this thirteenth novel by Clive Cussler, we first see Dirk Pitt rescuing Maeve Fletcher. A descendant of Betsy Fletcher and Jess Dorsett; two of the few survivors of a British clipper ship which was caring prisoners to Australia's penal colony and was crushed in a typhoon. After the few wash up on shore of a deserted island Betsy and Jess discover a large amount of diamonds.

Now an unknown source is killing marine life as well as humans. Dirk traces it back to owner of the second largest diamond empire and Maeve's father, Author Dorsett and her two sisters.

This is what the book Shock Wave is based around. Of course there is a lot more to it than that, but we learn a lot of background info at the beginning of the book, like in most of the Dirk Pitt novels.

I really liked this book, and I was sorry it took me so long to get to it. I do have to say though, that I loved it in a different way than the other Dirk Pitt novels if that makes sense.

Shock Wave, though as mysterious, action/adventure and suspense filled as the other really got me on an emotional level for Dirk that I have to say I didn't know was missing before now.

The book is one I did not want to put down and is probably me second favorite in the Dirk Pitt series so far.

The reason I only gave the book four stars though is because I was a little wary of what was going to happen Dirk wise. As Dirk is getting older and that is mentioned in the book, so I think that did make me pause for a minute wondering how the book would play out.

I would recommend for all Clive Cussler and Dirk Pitt fans, as well as readers of action-adventure.

An important entry in the Pitt universe. Meave is the girl who touches him deepest since Summer & his sustained injuries linger on the longest, with several mentions in subsequent novels. By in-universe logic, this is the closest our indistructable hero has come to death.
