This is mostly a fun book about video game aliens, but it wouldn't be Pratchett without it also occasionally beeing about the deep exploration of humankind and reality itself.

Ok so I read this 25 years ago or more. But fondly remember discovering it in my local library and devouring it.

That impression has last longer than i can remember any detail of the book, but still feel more strongly about this than I do much of discworld

I read this on Thanksgiving basically. I got it from my friend Vengence(not her real name stop asking)the night before Thanksgiving and started reading that night. I kept reading and kept reading and then slept a little, I went with my Dad to pick up my sister at the airport and kept reading and kept reading and finished it by the time I went to sleep on Thanksgiving night. Yeah, it's a kids book but it moves along at quite a clip! It's one of the fastest moving books I've ever read and it was still fantastic. I really like how everything that happens is sort of logical but not too logical and that Johnny and Kir...Sigourney cope with things in the alien ship. It's brilliant, I really liked it and the whole series was fantastic so it's overall a great book.

More catching up on children's lit, here's some Sir Terry I hadn't read. It's not one of his best but even so so Pratchett is really good, and he's touching on a lot of the same themes of adulthood and responsibility that he uses in so many other books. This is the first time that philosophy has so reminded me of Doctor Who, but the realization that there is always more time for talking rather than fighting is very Whovian. (And I suppose that since Jaw Jaw is better than War War, very British.)

2023 Revier

This book does age well, even though such games are by now obsolete.  It hits differently too, with what is going on in Gaza at this point in time.

Also Johnny is far superior to Harry Potter because Johnny actually sees people.

Older Review
Considering the popularity of first person shooters, this book is still very timely. It's Pratchett, it's funny and delivers a message. Kristi is the protype of Hermonie. Enjoyable.

A really good what if type of a story, especially if you ever played Space Invaders. There are a couple questions concerning the aliens and the game that Pratchett doesn't answer.
