Casual racism should be expected in an older book, but it nearly made me stop reading it. Yes, product of the times and maybe the characters were written that way so that they weren’t likable… I’m not sure, but I did finish the book because I wanted to find out how it all ended.

Some very dubious comments about race in this book, partially set in South Africa and what was Rhodesia. However, it is from nearly 100 years ago.

I found the female characters particularly fun, even if they didn’t del very three-dimensional. Love a strong female protagonist! However, I didn’t find the mystery particularly compelling - OK, but not my favourite Christie - and the romance was especially forced.

A quick, easy read for my Agatha Christie reading challenge for 2022.

The book started off so fun, it was almost like watching an action movie. However due to its racism and misogyny and the weird Tarzan-Jane like dynamic between the main couple I couldn't enjoy this fully.
Also Anne saying that the killer is nice???? What???? She had some serious issues. I also felt like the whole "I'm not Lucas I'm Harry" thing was pointless.

Note--aside from the racism & colonialism regular in British lit of the era, uses the G slur for Traveller people as a nickname for a character.

One of the ones where I actually had at least partially solved the mystery. Now I feel like a genius :).
However be aware: Very big themes of colonialism, racism, exoticism...which is why I really can not rate this book any higher! Also the romance was a bit abrupt and went from 0 to 100% rather quickly
