So so good. 4.5 stars. There are some great authors represented in this anthology and I really enjoyed listening to this one on audio.

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. Overall a great collection of short stories about the complicated and intense relationship between a child and mother.

I don't think this was the non-fiction for me. While these stories are all so important to tell, read and be aware of in general, I did not enjoy my reading experience. I think it was the short essay format. I kept feeling like I was missing a part of the story.

I could read 100 more essays about writers and their relationships with their moms.

I went into this book coloring my expectations by my own experiences with my mother, but after finishing I feel like my worldview has widened. This book has an incredible balance of love and abuse, hope and sorrow. All of the writers are so talented, and their experiences were both relatable and shocking.

I deeply recommend listening to the audiobook. Well recorded and just a fantastic listening experience.

“I have learned that healing is possible. That we can make lives we couldn’t even have imagined when we were little and that we can carry the little ones who we were into these new and luminous lives” (Munaweera).
