This was a great collection of stories compiled by authors that are well written and reflective. Anyone that has a good or bad relationship with their mother should read this. It’s not even about mother - child relationships, but the fragile way families can be. It was a great read and may reread in the future.

The set of essays is an incredible group of stories and experiences by different people. It is so interesting to see how motherhood can mean so many different things to different people, even if the box of motherhood tells us all mothers should be the same. Some essays o loved more than others, but overall I really connected with all the stories.

TW: this book does talk a lot about childhood abuse and generational abuse. Both are pretty hard to read at times.

This is a heavy read. As with any anthology or collection of essays with multiple authors, some things are going to resonate and others are not. I think there is genuinely something for everyone here, whether your relationship with your mother is good or great or toxic or non-existent. A lot of tough topics are handled very eloquently and it may be tough to get through at times but it’s a worthy read. I’d recommend this to most people, I think you’ll find something that sticks with you for a long time to come. I know I did.
