A solid 3.5. I worry that the main character, Brooklyn, is going to have permanent brain damage from getting hit from behind and knocked unconscious at so many crime scenes. A good mystery, good characters, and interesting locations.

I have enjoyed this series, the audio really brings them to life in a way plain reading does not. This installment has Brooklyn staying next door to her mom, in Dharma, while the renovations are done on the apartments that she and Derek own. There is a blast from the past when a long dead body is found. The characters and settings keep me coming back for more.

Much better plot (I thought) than the past 2 books, but that could have been because I just recently watched "Monuments Men". Still have trouble with randomly introduced characters, but hey-only one more book left in the series for me :)
"Excited to explore the secrets of wine country, Brooklyn attends an excavation of the caves hidden deep under her parents’ commune—and the findings are explosive. A room is unearthed, and it contains a treasure trove of artwork, rare books, a chest of jewelry…and a perfectly mummified body.
A closer examination of the murdered man’s possessions reveals a valuable first edition of Jules Verne’s A Journey to the Center of the Earth. Hidden in the book is a secret map that unveils an even greater hoard of treasures brought to California by French winemakers fleeing the Nazi invasion with the commune leader’s grandfather, Anton, among them. As reporters and art appraisers flock to Sonoma to see the precious bounty, questions begin to rise—did Anton hide these items to protect them, or did he steal them for himself? Who is the mysterious man left for dead inside the cave? But not all crime is buried in the past. When a new presence threatens the town’s peace, Brooklyn decides to do a little excavating of her own and solve the mystery of the treasure before anyone else is written off."

I have read every book in Kate Carlisle's Bibliophile Mysteries and have loved every single one. RIPPED FROM THE PAGES is no different. I loved it from beginning to end.

It's very much a change of pace for the series. The current day mystery doesn't start until the book is half over but the historical mystery makes up for that. It's also nice to learn more about Brooklyn's crazy and talented family along with the commune where she was raised.

After FINALLY reading the book after having it for the past two months, I CANNOT wait to for the next one! I'm definitely excited and happy to have read it! It feels a little different from the previous installments because the setting feels much more open, much like the location the characters are in. I felt my mind was better able to imagine creative spaces and imagery because of it. That being said, I really enjoyed reading this story!

It's not quite a 4 but is more than a 3, so this is the rating I am going with. It's been awhile since I read the previous book in the series, but it was like getting together with a dear old friend to have a lovely conversation and catch up on what I missed in life.
Next time I won't wait so long me dear friend before we meet again.
