Absolutely loved this book. It has all of Eoin Colfer's usual charm and humour brought to bear on an adult fantasy story.
Graphic: Violence

soooooooo enjoyable. i think it's rare to capture the fun and wonder you feel when reading as a kid but eoin colfer has never missed!! definitely more mature, but we all secretly though artemis deserved to say "fuck" at least once. the stakes were high enough without being insurmountable, the pacing was quick but still left a lot of room for character moments. and the cast!! sooo lovely, even smaller characters felt real and lovable (or dislikable!) really a bright spot in my reading these days, such a pleasant read.
Minor: Gore, Violence, and Vomit

“Tell the truth, I’m about done with hating the world. It’s hard to maintain.”
Ok I’ll definitely on me for reading a book with a 15 yr protag and not realizing until a third of the way through this book is for the male 11-15 demographic. That makes sense, cause that’s what Colfer’s known for. So I really cannot be mad at this book for just being what it is and me not being the target audience.
That being said, this book was not bad. It was just, again, incredibly juvenile. There’s a lot of blood and gore and penis jokes,
Also there were lines where it was painfully obvious that Colfer is from Ireland and not the states (he calles a flashlight a torch). It’s even more apparent when he tries to use Southern colloquialisms. Like oh hen you do not go here.
I did like Squib and Vern’s friendship. That was sweet.
