This book was sent to me by NetGalley in return for a review.
Love, Lies and Lemon Cake is the story of Faye Dobson, a forty-something hairdresser who is stuck in a loveless marriage and her daughter, her pride and joy, has gone to university all grown up. Faye is plodding along, every day the same until she walks into the deli in town for a sandwich. She meets Dan, a thirty year old Aussie in the UK on a sort of belated gap-year, working for his Aunt. On their first encounter Faye is clumsy, wearing a panda hat and can't keep her thoughts in her head, instead they spew out of her mouth in quite an embarrassing way.
Faye leaves her husband on a whim after finding a rucksack she packed years ago with her living list in. A bit like a bucket list, Faye's living list has all the things she planned to do before real life took over. Faye moves in with her hairdresser boss and flirts with Dan until things get going.
I think this book was probably more aimed at people slightly older than me, I couldn't quite connect with Faye as I have travelled and had a few adventures and taken risks. I did like Dan, and I didn't like Gabby which the readers were meant to. I liked the message that the book sent, its never too late to make a change and try to be happy.
The book is fairly predictable, it is quite clear early on what is going to happen but it does have a happy ending which is good. I read it very quickly and when I got to the end, I thought it would have been a good book to keep for my beach holiday, a nice easy read and funny in places. I think my Mum would really like this book.

What we want in our 20s may not be want in our 40s. For some we fall out of love but find it again, whether it be finding who we are and loving ourselves for that or finding our “true love” or “soul mate”.
For Faye Dobson she fell pregnant while attending university, dropped out and had her baby and made a family. At the time this made her happy and gave her what she wanted. At 42 once her daughter was at uni she realised the life she gave up to have her family. She lost her sparkle and it was time to find herself. Along the way she met Dan and his lovely lemon cakes! He made her realise who she was in more than one way.
She got to live her dream of seeing a Santorini sunset and she couldn’t be happier. But life can always throw us curve balls. Which is does as she is just finding who she is again.
This was a great read and I loved every minute of it. It reminds us that we should still live our lives along the way and not work to live. We need to follow our “living list”!
What a well written book, the characters were so loveable too!

Annoying middle-aged mother with verbal diarrhoea and no filter has mid-life crisis and is apparently able to abandon all her responsibilities at the blink of an Aussie’s eye.
Awful.

This is a well written story with strong character development. The sensory descriptions, especially of food, are amazing. Don't read this book while hungry! Divorced forty something women, such as myself, will identify with Faye and root for her to find love. I don't want to reveal any spoilers, but I didn't love the ending, although it was quite realistic. I would love to see more of Faye's adventures, especially as she checks things off her "living" list.

is she really 42?
Why does she feel the need to keep reminding us that she’s 42 and that life ends once you reach 40!?! Very slow and underwhelming.

Love, Lies and Lemon Cake by Sue Watson is a laugh out loud, roll on the floor, makes you feel good no matter what is happening in your life right now kind of book. This is the first book that I have had the pleasure of reading by this author, and it will definitely not be my last.
The story centers around Faye, forty-something years old wife and mother who feels that her life slips away from her. Her daughter is all grown up, out of the nest, and her life with the hubby has lost the sparkle long time ago. When she finds the old pink rucksack, an old dream becomes alive. To live her life again. To see Santorini sunset, to make love on the beach, to swim in the ocean, and many other things. In the local bakery, she meets Dan, gorgeous Australian guy, little bit younger than her, who supports her. But is Faye doing the biggest mistake in her life? Or is this her second chance to live her life, to live a real life?
Faye is an awesome character. She has always been living in a nutshell, always doing the things she supposed to do. But when she gets the chance to live the life she always wanted, she grabs that chance with both hands. She is a wife, she is a mother, her daughter always comes first and I respect her for that. It takes a lot of courage to do what Faye did. Maybe she looks little bit silly from someone else's perspective, but between black and white there is always pink. Right?
I am just about the same age as Faye, and this book made me thinking. What am I doing with my life? Am I putting off my dreams for another day? Maybe I should grab the bull by the horns and start living for today instead of having a sack full of regret. This book will make you laugh, cry and think about your life. It will teach you of the healing powers of the lemon cake. It will do everything, but won't let you leave it until the last page, because you gonna enjoy it every single page. I know I did. I enjoyed this book and gave it 4 shiny stars.

OMG!! I have found a new favourite author. I adored, loved and enjoyed every second of this story. I was hooked from the first chapter. I fell in love with the little town, Faye and Dan and their relationship. This is such a beautiful, funny, girly, romantic and laugh out loud story that I will rave about to anybody who has not yet read this book. I would highly recommend it to you all.
It will make you laugh, it has cakes and food! It has girly chat and a hair salon. It even has those naughty sexy bits making this the perfect chick-lit book for all readers. It also has a gorgeous cover. I awarded a well deserved five stars, I will not be able to forget this book in a hurry. Brilliant. Outstanding.

It is such a relief these days to read a sweet, funny story like this. Plus it has a hot Australian guy in it! And he can bake, and cook, and make you laugh, and ……. Oh I could go on and on about him! But I won’t.
Faye is a put upon wife and mother who has somehow lost herself in the years since she married. In order to find herself again she is going to need to make some tough decisions. Is she strong enough to make those decisions . If she does is she then strong enough to follow through with her living list and make her own way in the world?
Faye is the kind of person who never says yes to the tough things in life, but when she decides she needs to do just that all hell breaks loose! She is a klutz, she opens her mouth and let’s everything out, even if not appropriate at the time! But she made me laugh time and time again while reading about her antics.
And as for Dan! Oh Dan! The man everyone, well me anyway, dreams about meeting but never does! When he is around Faye just loses herself even more, but this time it’s in his eyes, his face, his body, his baking, his ….. Well, his everything!
For a laugh out loud book which almost made me cry several times you really need to pick this up. Go one click it now, I dare you!
