A wonderfully written allegory about a family that perseveres through a litany of calamities and has everything work out in the end.

Interesting book of family relationships and experiences. Seems somewhat satirical of sweetness. The narrator makes an intriguing figure.

Enjoyable. Felt like fluff, with a sense that there may be more deeper down that i wasn't picking up on.

Waarom is dit boek een klassieker? Het is leuk om te lezen, maar het hangt van toevalligheden / Deus ex machina's aan elkaar.

A really fun little book, in which Goldsmith appears to include a comment or circumstance relating to every aspect of his own life. The moralising is well outweighed by the comedy.

Easy read and some funny parts but at the same time very uninteresting with a boring and flat main character.

Written in the 1700s as a sort of epic/fairytale of a family plagued by bad and good luck. Lots of plot twists. Have truly never read anything like it. It also has political and social undertones in terms of capitalism, aristocracy/autocracy, etc.

It's the second time I read this book as I was studying it in class. I didn't really like it at first, but now I can tell why it was such à success
