I just don’t know how to feel about this book. The writing felt choppy and jumped around a lot making it hard for me to get into a flow and enjoy reading. The first 3/4 of the book dragged and when the author finally got into a groove it was pretty much done. I liked the premise of the story. It just needed better flow, editing, and execution.

It was slow most of the time for me but this is the beginning of a high fantasy series, even with that though I still wish I could have gotten more action scenes.
I'd say I liked the characters but sometimes I felt as if I didn't get enough at times to make them fully real for me. Sadly, I was not the biggest fan of the ending, but the world that Chima created is very interesting to me. I enjoyed the book enough so I'm willing to continue on in the series.

Percy Jackson Dupe and The Narrator should do ASMR Swallowing for their job.

I bought this book at the used bookstore in the new arrivals section on a whim and didn’t really look into it. It was really good and I enjoyed it but it’s definitely a very young adult type book so it was a little predictable for me. Still a great read and I would have loved it in middle or high school

I was not impressed. It didn't really grab me. There is such a fine line between building your world, but still making the plot move forward. I felt as though she spent most of her time setting up the world, but not really on moving the book forward. The most interesting characters were actually the secondary characters. I have absolutely no interest in reading the sequels for this book.

I was never very immersed or invested while reading it. It was kind of basic, flat, the writing never pushed me to the edge of my seat, or anywhere at all really, and  I never connected with the characters… It wasn’t so bad that I’d demand my time back if I could, but I just didn’t care for it too much. Objectively, though, it was fine, just not extraordinary

My plans to maybe do something today went out the window when I picked up this book. Instead, I spent the day reading and didn't stop until I finished it! I really enjoy this author. Can't wait to read the next one!
