It was so fun, hilarious, cute and surprisingly profound.
Rosa was great and I liked how her story arc resolved itself. Her development was beautiful and one of the things I found compelling was her resolve towards the end in making a decision that ordinarily young FMCs don’t make (consciously killing off the bad guys) as well as understanding and feeling the weight of those decisions.
Mariano was wonderful and reminded me of a cross between Flynn and Aladdin. He too has a great character arc and I liked how evenly matched he was to Rosa.
I miraculously didn’t mind the instalove/heartsong concept. It was sweet and unique to their world.
I do wish the love MMC and FMC has spent a bit mire time together.
The side characters were fantastic additions. The King Sebastian surprised me, Santiago was hilarious, and Juana was one of the best argumentative damsels in distress I have ever read about. I also liked how complex Lola’s feelings toward Juana were in that she wanted her to always be safe. I’m glad they had a good ending. Isabella was great and I thought her decision at the end was interesting.
I also loved how deep and loving the friendships were while firmly remaining in the realm of platonic bonds. As much as I love romance, meaningful friendships hold a special place in my heart.
The only thing that did make me pause a bit was tacking on the romance between Santi and Sebastian. It gave me “pair-the-spares” vibes which, while I get why it happens (people love HEAs) did not add much to the story.
Also this book had some gorgeous twists that really caught me off guard and I applaud the author for that.
Beautiful world building and the addition of siren lore was awesome!
Solid 4.5 from me.
