I saw the show Cambodian Rock Band, which also spoke about the horrors the Khmer Rouge inflicted on the people of Cambodia. It is so shocking and heartbreaking that these events really happened, and it makes me wonder about humane ways to implement communist ideology. My only critique is that there wasn’t much clarity about how much time passed between chapters.

This book was excellent. Such a beautiful and compelling way to tell a difficult story. The major points that held it back from being a 5 star book for me were:
1. The ending wrapped up so fast! It felt so unsatisfying especially since the middle moved so slowly. 
2. It was a little challenging trying to keep up with the “cast of characters”. Some of the storylines jumped around and it was a bit confusing to keep track who was family, friend or foe.
