It is readable, don't get me wrong. I finished the book. At no point did I feel like it was a page turner.

My mom loves this series. I had a lot of problems with what I consider "boomer humor" or maybe gen x commentary. I thought it had a problematic, somewhat misogynistic treatment of women. In the era of the body positivity movement, it was weird to see so much criticism of other women's bodies from a woman author. But that commentary would have been totally normal and not out of place 20 years ago.

The relationships weren't as poorly done as other pop novels, like Fourth Wing or the Bridgerton books. I didn't think they had any emotional depth though. Nor did I feel any chemistry with the MC.

It felt like a vampire slice of life in a small town, until the last 30%, where you get a bit of mystery and action.

I will not be continuing the series.
