I bought this book thinking it would be an interesting read but found it very boring even though it did have some good points.
I didn’t love this. I was hoping for new information but there really wasn’t anything new.

Wow do I have mixed feelings.
First and foremost, I found out as I was preparing this review that the publisher has pulled this book because some of the research has been discredited. It’s disappointing and takes away from conclusion, to say the least.
Even so, it doesn’t feel like a waste of the full 10 hours of listening. This book dove into the history of the occupation of the Netherlands, the immediate implications of society, and the tragedy of Anne Frank on all scales. Much of the book was new information to me, but also felt disgustingly familiar.
I can’t in good conscience recommend reading this because of the shaky research. But I am glad I listened.

This was great, but my mental health is too fragile to handle rn.
If reading this for the cold case aspect, it’s not great. If reading to learn about the history and the people during that time, I would recommend. I will say that it seems unfair to name a person as a betrayer given how little evidence there actually is. It should also be noted that the Dutch publisher stopped publishing this book from requests of the “betrayers” grand daughter.
