Maybe I've read too much Grisham.. but this one had a GREAT plot, and seemed to DRAG on for far too long. I always enjoy his character development, and was astonished at a few twists in this one.

Have not read a Grisham book in a while that I liked, but this one had me captivated. Couldn't put it down. Never boring!

A bit repetitive and not one of Grisham's best.

I enjoyed listening to this story. It was long, but it gave me a lot to think about.

This was truly a disturbing book. In Texas, Donte Drumm, who was convicted on next to no evidence, is set to be executed for the rape and murder of Nicole Yarber. In Kansas, Travis Boyette goes to see Lutheran pastor Keith Schroeder and lets him know that he is actually responsible for the very crime that Drumm will soon die for. Reverend Schroeder has to make decisions about what to do with this information and must deal with Boyette and his flighty, irratic behavior. As the story progresses, we learn more about the trial that Drumm had and see all of the flaws with it, from the prosecutor sleeping with the judge to lies told by the only "witness." It is very obvious that Grisham is anti-death penalty and has strong feelings about it. There are definite lines of who is good and who is bad and those lines are drawn on their feelings about the death penalty. That didn't take away from my interest in the book. The story was meant to play on my emotions and succeeded and that made it a story that I enjoyed and am glad I read.

I loved this book! This was the first John Grisham book I've read, and I have to admit I'm hooked and plan on reading several more of his books.
One of the things I liked best about this book was that there were a lot of things that happened that I didn't expect. I figured about 1/2 through what would happen, and then there was a quite unexpected turn of events. It also plays up both sides of controversial issues in society well. If you like stories that keep you guessing, you definitely need to read this book!
