I "read" this with my four year old and we both are in love. We actually followed along in the book while listening to the audiobook read by David Tennet *swoon*. It was the first time I had read a book this way and it worked out really well. We were able to enjoy all the drawings and overall cool way the book is visually written but could just relax and let someone else remember to make all the voices for a change.
We both got completely sucked into this book; it's a fantastic story! It's full of adventure, it's imaginative, it made us laugh and had us sitting at he edge of our seat wondering what would happen next. We bought a box set of the series because we liked it that much.
I imagine my son would appreciate it even more if he was older, I think he missed some of the humor and some of the subtleties of the storyline. But he did understand what was going on and wanted to keep reading and reading. Admittedly we stayed up well passed his bed time a few nights in a row because neither of us had the willpower to stop reading. I'm sure this will be a series he will read again when he's older too.

I thought I’d listen to the kids audiobooks that they hadn’t made it to the end of! No idea what my daughter disliked about this one, but I enjoyed it.
Narrated by David Tennant, and it’s worth it for that, but it’s also a great kids story about vikings and dragons. Lots of silly character names too.

The first thing you need to know about this book: it’s nothing like the movie. The second thing: it’s wonderful in its own right.
I’ve been on a quest to find quality chapter books to read aloud to my young boys. How to Train Your Dragon tops the list. It’s exciting without being scary and had unforgettable characters and enough comedy to keep the grownups laughing as well as the kids.

Another book that it's hard for me to rate, because it was written for such a younger age group than me-even further away than young adult, which I still don't feel that far from.
The book moved so quickly that I hardly had time to think about how good it was. :p But, putting all that aside, it was cute, and endearing, just not as funny as it would be to a younger group I think. But the dragon, and the relationship to Hiccup, the boy, was adorable, and everything tying together and being for a reason was appreciated, as well as the personality of the big scary dragon.
It was quite a bit different from the movie (which is why I read the book), but no complaints there (other than I was ticked that the movie, like always, added a love interest where there was none).
Anyways, I'd still be interested in reading the rest of the series and finding out what happens with Toothless and Hiccup. I think it'd be very fun to read to younger children out loud.

Well that was a fast but enjoyable read, it was interesting to see just how different the books are to the movies.
Also I found out that David Tennant does the audio books and now I am very tempted to get the rest of the series in audio book format instead of the physical books.
