Loved the first half. Absolutely struggled to keep up with the second.

really interesting… originally read because Roland Barthes created the Enigma Code I learn about in my Media Studies class but his views on certain topics are really fascinating… my first non-fiction read <333

i was a bit confused as to why this was in our introductory reading list for september, until silly me remembered the programme is called 'modern and contemporary literature and culture. ' so yeah, that made sense afterwards. i prefer roland barthes when he talks about literary theory (although a third of this tiny book was about semiology properly speaking) than culture to be honest.

Some essays are entertaining and I'm pretty sure I get the overall gist of his work, but nothing about the purely intellectual nature of semiotics makes me care. I've heard people gush about this book lovingly and I just don't get that at all.
