This story was much longer than the other Robots books but the length did not hurt. The mystery progresses all the way... Until Dawn.

Asimov returns to his earlier, stronger form for this third volume in the series.

While there are parts of this book that haven’t aged all that well, as well as some topics that are a bit too lightly dealt with, overall the heart of the story is strong and well presented. Very much worth the read.

Brilliant brilliant book. It keeps you turning pages and glued to it. As the events unfold the mystery feels unsolvable until the very end and when it is solved it is not solved. And yet everything unfolds in the last one page as elegantly and unexpectedly as one could think of!

I just couldn’t finish this. Stories about robots were replaced with encouraging a married man to have an affair, even by his own son.

You can tell that this book was written after Foundation. Similar to Foundation’s Edge, the book is tied much more clearly to the greater Foundation universe, and although it continues the Earth/Spacer political struggle, it also acts as a sort of origin story of psychohistory, and confirms some details of the story of Gaia. I do feel that Giskard’s mind-reading wasn’t as satisfyingly foreshadowed as previous twists.
