I don't typically try to be rude when it comes to reviews because I know time and effort went into writing it.
However, this book was just awful. I had watched the series and thought that was decent enough to read the book. Boy, was I wrong. It had such a poor underlying message that I just couldn't ignore it. it's one thing to try and let women know that we can be just as successful as men but it's entirely another to just keep repeating it over and over again in this book.
And the ending was very lackluster. I apologize if you felt this was a great book but this is just my thoughts.

The book was OK, but I love the TV show. Sad. I know!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the show is FAR superior. Definitely Ms. Bushnell's worst book.

Approaching middle age, Nico, Wendy, and Victory are soul sisters navigating high profile jobs in Manhattan. They work hard in the world of men, striving for fame, glory, fortune, and happiness. One has an affair with a young underwear model; one overcomes letdown when her fashion line flops. Challenges abound. Yet their love for each other and New York never wavers. This writer is outstanding.

Seriously, one of the most boring books I've EVER read. Don't know why I bothered making myself read to the end. A vain hope it'd get better I suppose. Anything important or possibly exciting was simply skipped and referred back to later!

Written by the Sexy and the City author Candace Bushnell, this reads like a SATC season maybe ten years into their future, or if the SATC girls were more mature. It could also be a version of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants if there were 3 girls instead of 4 and no pants were involved. Bushnell does a good job of keeping you invested in each character, although sometimes the transitions aren't as flawless as I'd like and it's difficult to get back into the character and remember their story. A good summer/beach read although it will definitely take you a few trips to the beach to finish this one.

Finally, Bushnell has come into her own. For reasons I could not previously comprehend, her past three books sucked so, so badly. And yet were bestsellers. However, this particular book is fantastic, telling the stories of three high-powered executive-type women in today's New York - one, a fashion designer, one, a movie executive, and one, a magazine editor-in-chief. They go through quite a lot, with jobs and relationships, and it works out well. I like them all, which is saying a lot, seeing as the characters in the other three were either uninteresting or horrifyingly awful. The one problem I found is that, occasionally, with no particular order or reason, there will be a sort of flashback scene, and it's difficult to tell when it starts, when it ends, and why it's there. It's easily bypassed, though, when you do see where she's going, and how things turn out.

I picked up this book because the television show got canceled and I wanted to know what happened to the characters since the show did not finish. Luckily, the book isn't really like the television show. It is better. I liked this book a lot. It's light and fluffy. It has a strong commentary on powerful women. It appeased my angst about women being unable to have it all. According to this book, crappy things still happen to women in power... yet in the end, they really DO have it all and can live happily ever after. A quick read and feel good novel.
