This book made me so emotional with everything that is currently going on in Palestine, and it’s the one of the books that I really urge people to read regardless on your stance. This is not only a greatly detailed personal account of the everyday life of a Palestinian, but his overt focus on wanting to find solutions for coexistence and an end to violence is everything that we as a modern society should be striving for.

This is a very important book because it really shows exactly what life is like in Gaza. I had a vague idea of what living in Gaza was like, but it is many times worse than I ever thought. It is vengeful. It makes my blood boil.
It feels very wry to read this book now, when there is a genocide going on in Gaza. It seems like nothing has changed in all these years. While reading, I kept asking myself what Mr. Abuelaish thinks about it now, whether he is still hopeful that this conflict will ever stop. It all feels very double. I think he is one of the most peace-loving people on earth. It's admirable that even after losing his 3 daughters, he was able to stay in life like this. We can all learn a lot from this man.
Keep asking for a cease fire! Free Palestine!

Unbelievable Perspective
If you have a chance, sit down and read this story. Very moving after unthinkable tragedy. Highly recommend this book.

At first I wasn't sure how I felt about this book, but I wanted to learn more about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Izzeldin Abuelaish is a terrific writer, who captures his surroundings well such clarity that you can almost visualize being there. He explains the situation in such an objective manner than it seems like it was written by someone who cares equally about both sides, rather than someone who could ever live as one and have something so terrible to him happen by the other side. He also never presents anger or hate to anyone, just sorrow and hope. I think he is a great example of what we should aspire to be as human as well as presenting what we should hope will one day be reality between Israelis and Palestinians.
