there was a lot of dubious stuff in this one tbh, but the Rampion crew dynamic is really fun I wish there was more of that

I did like the book but not as much as Cinder. I had high expectations for this book because I had read many reviews that said it was a great continuity from book 1 but I found it a bit dull when compared to book 1.
Scarlet as a re-imagination of the fairy tale story "The Little Red riding hood" was very well executed but when in terms of a series, I found this book liked a bit of word building as well as character growth. That is why I found it enjoyable but not as good or as amazing as Cinder was for me.
I still love the characters and would like to see how the story is going to unravel with the upcoming books. The characters had a unique voice which separated them from each other and also made them a good team as the main characters of this series. I love how snappy they were and the conversations were as if something we would talk in our real life. So there's that element of realism in the fantasy and I laughed how the author has taken the fairy tales of "Cinderella" And "The Little Red riding hood" and incorporated it into this series. Absolutely loved the writing.
I think I enjoyed this book in audiobook format more than I did when I was reading it physically because I was struggling between these two formats. The narrator has an absolute understanding of the characters and how they sound. So it give me a very immersive experience into the world and the story.
Can't wait to read the next book, "Cress".

There is so much that happens in this book, even with the reread I was so entertained and on the edge of my seat with all the things that happen.  The plot and characters work so well together and I love getting to read all the point of views.  Cinder is literally doing so much, Kai is stressed, Iko is still just as amazing as she was in the first book.  Thorn is an icon, his banter alone was hilarious.  He is incapable of being serious for more than a second.  Scarlet being just as stubborn as I remembered, truly great for fighting for her loved ones.  And lastly, Wolf is so precious, he deserves all the best farm fresh tomatoes πŸ… as possible.

I loved this book. At first I was mad that it kept switching from Cinder’s perspective but I grew to love Scarlet’s story too. I hope to get more insight on Carswell in future books. It was a bit predictable like the first book in the series but that didn’t take away from its charm. Wish we would’ve gotten Iko a body finally. Excited for how the next book is gonna tie in another protagonist!
