Enjoyed this a lot, in the midst of editing my own novel, so renewed a couple of times. Need to buy my own copy I guess.

I truly feel like the reason it took me so long to finish this was just so I had an excuse to procrastinate plotting my novel. Oh, well. It really is an amazing and very useful book, though, and now I have no excuse whatsoever. Let's do this.

I've read plenty of screenwriting books and always get something out of them but this this one is my go to guide. He cleary explains the process and the exercises at end of each chapter allow you to create a story with a strong foundation that will give your story meaning.

A lot of great points that he makes. A lot of which I was already told from a lot of other "how to write" books. This one seems to add a little more with differrent story maps. Good overall, but repetitive in that it was telling me what I was already told like "make your characters have a goal" and "always keep in perspective the choices and follow a cause and effect layout".

Truby brilliantly dispells the cliches of screenwriting -and other useless shit- and gives you honest tips on how to structure your stories (not claiming to know it all or dictate his advice). It helped me tremendously to revamp my outlines and sharpen my palate for new resources.

Some interesting stuff but very formulaic. The examples are helpful if you've seen the movies and read the books, but there's not a lot of variety. It could almost use a recommended reading/viewing list before watching.
