I love Edgar Allan Poe but was too distracted by the graphics being all over the page to appreciate the stories.

Gris Grimly and Edgar Allan Poe are a match made in heaven. Or hell, depending on your worldview. Both are very talented and deeply disturbed. Deeply. This might explain why I like this boom so much.

Must procure Grimly's other Poe adaptation...

While designed for children, this book will delight Poe fans of all ages. The gruesome and sometimes gross illustrations to these four tales are a perfect counterpoint, and the stories lose nothing from the abridgment. The stories ranged from highly recognizable to a little more obscure: The Tell Tale Heart, The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether, The Oblong Box, and The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar.

Dark humor, death, and insanity await.

If you're giving this to a child, you might want to glance at ALL the illustrations (especially the last story) before handing it over.

I adore the illustrations by Gris Grimly in this book. The style he uses works so well with Poe's stories that they fit together naturally and don't overpower the tales. Not bad for a book I bought at a library sale for $1!

I think, like Poe, Gris Grimly is a dark character. His illustrations to Poe's dark & disturbing stories are also dark & disturbing. Fascinated by it all . . .

There are 4 stories in this book. The illustrations greatly add to the book. They make it far more interesting. They even have the effect of adding some comedy to Poe's very morbid stories. Of the 4 stories my opinions are thus:

The Tell Tale Heart: This I believe to be Poe's greatest work. I love this story. The narrator is fascinating in that he continuously states that he is not mad right before showcasing another incident that proves that he is in fact, mad.

The Oblong Box: The story is interesting until the very end, but the end is very bad.

"Tarr And Fether": An entertaining little story

"M. Valdemar": I do not like this story. It seems to have no point.

A great graphic novel of some of Edgar’s fine work.

My fav being Tell tale Heart & The system of doctor Tarr and Professor Fether

My first taste of classical horror and didn’t disappoint, the illustrations where brilliant and loved the layout.

I recently purchased a few classical horrors of Edgar’s that I’m eager to read soon.

My favorite poet illustrated by one of my favorite artists. This was a wonderful gift I will cherish. I am in the process of collecting all Gris Grimly's works as the little loves them too.

More fantastic drawings that raise the suspense of these four tales. I’d only heard or read of one, so it was fun to pick up some new ones.
