A good and simple read with ordinary characters - There is nothing wrong with an ordinary story about normal people, but the book needs to at least say something. I feel I learnt nothing after reading this - it was just a mundane story. I felt the book could have expanded more on the restaurant bit than just focussing on Lauren once she comes into the picture. But, the sentiments portrayed can be felt in the book and it's not a bad one. Is it weird I forgot how the book ended so fast?

I didn't like this book nearly as much as The Nightingale. Felt very stereotyped and left nearly nothing for the reader to deduce as all emotions were overtly explained instead of demonstrated. Flat, one-dimensional characters, utterly predicable, growth without development, and the heartwarming feeling was forced/overwrought. Very superficial middle aged woman fiction... is there a category for this type of book? Books that are not unpleasant but fairly unbelievable and does nothing for me. Airport fiction? Light Lit? Hallmark Channel or Lifetime movie material. Anyway, I think I would have accepted it better if I hadn't had high expectations after reading The Nightingale. Has me skeptical about reading more of the author's work. Which category will it fall under? I’m going to take a hard pass on Firefly Lane, the other one I’ve got.
