A few duds, and started off slow and difficult, but got better and stronger as the book progressed. The last few stories resonate with love and insight into the human experience.

Such a mixed bag (while the inner monologue of a tapeworm gets points for originality, it wasn't a terrific read). The good ones though are so very good and unlike anything else I've read. I recommend reading it knowing you'll choose to skip some as you realize they aren't doing it for you.

I had a really hard time with this collection, partially due to South African references that were unfamiliar to me - but I had a hard time getting a grip on it beyond that. Except the parasite story.

very uneven collection, my favourite was definitely the 2nd last one about the cellist, or the one about the "frivolous" mother. or maybe the one about the actress mother and adoptive father. there was one written from the perspective of a tapeworm that was simply too weird for my taste, and most of the ones written from the perspective of men were just slightly off. overall, a mature collection with themes of identity, falling out of love and complicated relationships with the past. curious to read the books that won her the nobel prize.

I so wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, all I could hear while I was reading it was "blah blah blah". Couldn't even finish it.
