Lyla und Nico sind ein ungleiches Paar. Während sie als Wissenschaftlerin im Labor Viren untersucht, jagt er seinem Traum nach als Schauspieler berühmt zu werden. Und der Traum scheint wahr zu werden, als er für die Reality-Show "One Perfect Couple" gecastet wird. Der Haken: Die Show ist nur für Paare. Und Lyla kann sich so eine Teilnahme kaum vorstellen. Aus Liebe stimmt sie zu und öffnet damit das Tor zur Hölle!

"One Perfect Couple" ist der neuste Thriller on Ruth Ware und hat mich umgehauen. Die Autorin erzählt eine rasante, spannende und nervenzerreißende Geschichte, in der vermeintliche Stereotype im Paradies aufeinanderknallen. Gleichzeitig rechnet Ware mit dem Reality-TV-Hype ab und zeigt die hässliche Seite solch einer Produktion.

Die Geschichte wird von Lyla erzählt. Sie ist bodenständig, rational und gegenüber ihrem Partner Nico unterstützend. Der Trip auf die Insel im Indischen Ozean macht sie nur, um ihn glücklich zu machen. Doch Lyla merkt schnell, dass dieser Grund ein Fehler war. Als dann auch noch ein Sturm über die Insel fegt und sie von der Außenwelt abschneidet, muss die Wissenschaftlerin erkennen, dass vieles nicht so ist, wie es scheint.

Ich war von Beginn an von diesem Thriller gefesselt. Das Lesen fühlte sich wie ein Sog an und das Ende hat nochmal einen oben drauf gesetzt.

Eine absolute Leseempfehlung!

A reality tv show turned into island survival.
I was on edge after 40% in & could not put this book down.

This book was a bit different than Ruth Ware’s typical story. There was less mystery, more thriller and no child in danger.

Read with audiobook & hardback.
Started with audiobook, but once it got intense I had to switch to reading. Only because I read faster. Still would recommend listening.

I always find thrillers to be pretty digestible, and this was no different. I housed the whole book in one sitting. I was impressed that I only figured out the twist a couple of pages before it happened. I did find the narrator's lamentations about academia to hit a little too close to home to be enjoyable.
