I really enjoyed this book. Besides the writing being well done, the plot being understandable, and the characters ranging from annoying to awesome (in the way that they should in a good book), I freaking loved having diabetes as a focus! There really is something cool about feeling seen in a book.

Insufferable main protagonist, a few okay side characters, and several comically evil male characters that are a little too close to real life. The latter most was obviously intentional (and a welcomed critique) but not sure if the first part was on purpose or not. Stopped short of fully committing to what it was trying to say about Gender and Reality TV but was not the political manifesto some reviews make it out to be. Very Girlboss coded. Some insufferable characters, some semi-likeable ones, one lovable one (Angel, you're an angel!) Decent character development but a lot of things came out of left field, or were interesting and then undercut with a correction. The ending was an intriguing twist in theory but felt cobbled together in practice. The first part is a slog but parts two and three are quite entertaining and readable.

WOULD RECOMMEND: If you're a Love Island fan that has a horror movie in their top 4 on Letterboxd, if you're someone who says "I hate men" and then goes home to their boyfriend, anyone looking for something to read on a beach anywhere in the world.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND: If you can't have fun, if you hate women, if you can't handle a little NLOG in your protagonist, if you've ever been in a survival situation and could fact check this, if you're looking for something actually good and not just entertaining.

This was not the ending I expected for sure! Upon first reading the book, it did not seem like a typical thriller to be honest and I kept wondering when the “twist” was going to happen but I had to remind myself to be patient! Of course as I got deeper into it and engrossed with all the characters and storyline, stuff started to piece up with the events and make sense.

The author does a great job of explaining the events well on the island and the character’s backgrounds and possible motives. It really seemed almost like a ‘survival of the fittest’ trope but really stunned me towards the end. I recommend reading this, especially if you’re familiar with reality TV, even though you’ll start questioning how much of it is really real…

A reality tv show turned into island survival.
I was on edge after 40% in & could not put this book down.

This book was a bit different than Ruth Ware’s typical story. There was less mystery, more thriller and no child in danger.

• Single POV - snippets of diary/other perspectives
• Tropical island murder / survival

Read with audiobook & hardback.
Started with audiobook, but once it got intense I had to switch to reading. Only because I read faster. Still would recommend listening.
