I have absolutely no idea how this ended up in my Audible library. I have no idea what possessed me to buy it. It was boring and I didn't get the point of the story. Enuff said.

It was ok, but definitely a struggle to get myself to finish it.

I really liked this book. It was a bit predictable, but an interesting story, none-the-less.

It was ok. I had a hard time understanding the motives of the narrator but Anita Shreve does paint a wonderful picture of the scenery and emotions within.

I enjoyed this novel, especially the unusual POV. Not my favorite Anita Shreve novel, but good nonetheless.

I wasn't sure for quite a while if I was enjoying this book or not. Nevertheless, I didn't want to stop reading it. I ended up realising that thought the "author" of the book was a most unlikeable man, I really wanted to know how his marriage ended up. As it went on, my impatience with him grew into sympathy.

Shreve has done a fine job of writing in the style of the period this book is set in, while still keeping it modern enough that it isn't tedious as son many novels of that period actually were. She does pompous really well, and the tone of the man writing his shameful memoire is excellent.

I have enjoyed some of her other books much more. I listened to it while going to work so didn't have to work at it. I might not have finished it otherwise.

This started out slow and dry. I really wondered if I would finish it. But when I got to the end of the first part, I was hooked. The writing picked up and the story became intriguing. How does a man marry a woman who doesn't love him, but yet finds contentment in a loveless marriage?

While I'm not sure I'd actually recommend this book to anyone, I would say if you have a rainy day and want something mindless to read, this is a definitely that type of book.
