just found this so DULL i’m SORRY !! obviously feels very poetic and there was some lush writing (/translation) throughout and it did feel very ~atmospheric~ but literally NOTHING happened until the end ??! 1.5 stars

Never has such a beautifully written novel left such a bad taste in my mouth. Sorry, but this is not the story of a doomed romance. This is a male POV romanticized telling of the “relationship” between a middle-aged man with internalized misogyny and a 19-year-old indentured sex worker full of shame and self-hatred, and completely lacking in agency in her life.
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐ (Four for the prose, two for the toxic story)
