Storytelling is perfect. İ have nothing to say about it yet everything is revolving around one chosen guy. He is perfect. He is heroic. He is even godlike person. He is against anyone who opposed him etc etc. A little irritating character.
İ didnt feel like i am reading a fantastic book but a fiction which includes a little fantastic components.

The hype for The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is not unwarranted - it has earned one of the highest average Goodreads ratings I've ever seen, a 4.55. The Name of the Wind is an engaging, well-developed, magical, and witty novel with a well-deserved following and respect.

Not being a frequent fantasy reader, I found this book to be easily readable for all, and its pace picks up quickly, steadily, and with depth. There were several instances where I stopped and laughed to myself, impressed by the author's creative mind and subtle sense of humor. I wonder who inspired his characters - all so unique, realistically flawed, and complex. I felt like The Name of the Wind held a world inside of its pages.

As for the plot, the story follows Kvothe, a young man whose bold and gifted mind helps him (sometimes) through tragedy and adversity. I really don't want to explain more than that.

If you are a reader who likes full, creative writing; if you aren't in a rush, then this book could be for you. I am eagerly awaiting part two.

This book was challenging to get through. The main character possesses an infuriating amount of self importance. Also, I'm just tired of female characters who are boring plot devices. It was a shame because I was really intrigued by the lore of the world and magic system but I could barely get through my irritation to finish the book.

This was one of those books that captured my attention immediately. Not just that but it was also very good at quickly re-capturing it when I was reading inbetween pitches during a Sox game. The writing style is smooth and poetic at the same time. No mean feat. Mr. Rothfuss is also a wry writer, subtle jokes that don’t seem forced are common.

As for the story, it’s a saga in the vein of Lord of The Rings. Qvothe is a legendary man and we encounter him as an innkeeper in a quiet little ‘burb, which quickly grows less quiet when a spider-like creature is discovered. But that’s just one story. Soon a man aptly name “Chronicler” appears on the scene. When Qvothe and he meet a story within the story begins. Qvothe begins to tell the story of his life. This book centers around his childhood and his time in The University.

Mr. Rothfuss’ take on magic is a good one. It centers around binding two objects together to impact one with the other. For instance, a piece of wood could be bound to a tree and muttering a few choice words will set the wood on fire, which in turn would set the tree on fire. Interesting stuff. More interesting is the power of names, hence the title of the book. His take is that everything has a name of its own, one separate from the name humans give it. Learning and saying these names gives you power over it. He doesn’t get too far into that stuff but he certainly piqued my interest.
One of the best Fantasy books I’ve read in a long time. I Highly recommend it.

DNF - The writing's bad. Just bad. I wanted to understand the hype, I really did, but the author wasn't skilled enough to keep me invested.

Favorite quotes:
He spoke gently, laughed often, and never exercised his wit at the expense of others.
The day we fret about the future is the day we leave our childhood behind.
But we are all creatures of habit. It is far too easy to stay in the familiar ruts we dig for ourselves.
Fear tends to come from ignorance. Once I knew what the problem was, it was just a problem, nothing to fear.
You see, there’s a fundamental connection between seeming and being.
We all become what we pretend to be.
It’s like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.
