the definitive book on tech hype culture and its fallout, and it was written 120 years ago.

this ought to be more widely read than it is. an insightful and relevant satire of how society reacts to technological disruptions.

I didn't like this story, I'm sorry. The twist were really not surprising at all, the narrative is quite heavy and the ending is a little lame.

You have to hand it to Mr Wells, he really has stayed the distance. As relevant today as it was when it was written.

I wasn’t sure about this book when I first started it, but it really grew on me. It can be a bit of a struggle for me to get into Wells’ books because they tend to be very concept-driven, and my favourite stories are usually character-driven. That being said, the concept of this book was SO interesting, and Wells managed to accomplish thoughtful social critique that’s still deeply relevant over a hundred years later. That insightful critique combined with the humour that it’s written with won me over to this book and made it a very worthwhile read.
