"Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and therefore the fount of all invention and innovation; in its is arguable most transformative and revelatory capacity, it is the power that enables us to empathize with humans whose experiences we have never shared."
"We do not need magic to transform our world; we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better."

Just what I needed to hear at this awkward stage between college and (hopefully) a writing career. Well worth the twenty minutes or so this takes to read.

This would make an excellent gift for a new graduate. I loved the illustrations. It is Jo at her finest. Great advice, especially the way she honors the struggles of poverty without romanticizing it.

Going to keep this around and have A Very Complicated But Ultimately Cleansing Little Cry once a week until I am dead.

This was a quick read that I read in fifteen minutes while stopping by the book section today! For those of you who don’t know, Very Good Lives is a speech by J.K. Rowling that she delivered to Harvard University in the year 2008 (I’m sure, please correct me if I’m wrong). This is the published edition which also includes typography!
I think everyone should read this speech, regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of J.K. Rowling because it is incredibly inspiring and it consists of nothing but the uncoated truth. Along with showing her own personal struggles, it shows that a lot of things you do in life aren’t on what you’ve done and what you’re going to do, it all depends on now.
I thought the art style and typography used in this one was pretty cool, and I enjoyed the speech. After I finished reading it, I went back and reread some of my favorite parts! :D
Once again, I think everyone should read this speech, regardless of whether or not you’re a J.K Rowling fan or not.
