This collection of seven stories is a very mixed bag.
George RR Martins story itself has a lot of action crammed into not many pages and sometimes the pace felt a bit too quick.
I really enjoyed the Nancy Kress story there was something so lovely and unexpected moments in a apocalyptic setting and I will definitely be looking to read more of her work.
Absolutely loved Brandon Sandersons book that did have some lovely characters, I had a real sense of trepidation as the main characters made their way through the forest.
The rest of the stories I would rather 0-1 out of 5. The stories were just really bad and not enjoyable to read. A lot of the time I felt there was violence for no reason, the characters were really unlikeable, provocative language that had no real purpose and women often depicted in very sexualised ways which felt more objectifying rather than empowering.

I got this got the Game of Thrones story but I stayed for great stories like 'my heart is either broken' and 'wrestling Jesus.' These were the two stand outs for me. In fact the George R R Martin one was one of my least favourites. Simply because it seemed that it was held at arms length. Like a news item story. It lacked the 'being right in it' feel of the books with their POV chapters. I would recommend this book though. Even my least favourite stories were great.
"A woman could be strong without having the emotions of a brick" <----- I feel like a lot of authors should take note...
I've never read a short story collection so i wasn't sure what to expect with this. Usually i stay away from them because since they're short, i never feel like i connect to the story or the characters. However i did actually enjoy some of these!
The Princess and the Queen - 4/5 - This one was written very impersonally but i actually enjoyed the fact that it read like something out of a history book. Also love a good prequel story.
Raisa Stepanova - 2/5 - This just was not my thing...I thought the writing was too simple for my liking and i also was not keen on the lead character. I did enjoy the setting though, i've never read anything to do with Russia during the War.
Second Arabesque, Very Slowly - 4/5 - I thought this was one of the best contributions to this book! I thought the setting was very dark and interesting, Nancy Kress really set the scene given that there isn't a lot of time for world building. I love the idea that there is always beauty somewhere, and that it can give someone a reason to live.
I Know How to Pick 'Em - 1/5 - Honestly i didn't like it at all, it just wasn't my thing...at all.
My Heart is Either Broken - 4/5 - Again i thought this was really well done given that its a short story! It was very mysterious, and it was the first one where the 'dangerous woman' actually gave me the creeps a little, especially since it has an....ambiguous end..
Wrestling Jesus - 3/5 - This was quite moving but I felt like there should've been more focus on Felina?
Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell - 5/5 - Now...Brandon Sanderson is already one of my favourite authors but i genuinely thought this was the best contribution. It was well written with an interesting setting and characters that i actually felt for as the story went on. Then again, I wouldn't expect anything less from Sanderson!

This collection is less "Dangerous Women" and more "Women in Dangerous Situations".
Meant to give it three and a half stars, but since that is not a possibility, three stars will have to make do.
A variation of short stories written by very different authors; all brilliant, but with their own unique style of writing, both concerning language, vocabulary, sentence structure, etc., and genre, here implied how the story is built.
This makes a short story collection like this ideal for people wanting to broaden their horizon and read outside their comfort zone, as it is an eye opener to authors some people otherwise wouldn't have read anything from.
That being said, the collection easily comes of rather chaotic and messy, as the short stories are VERY different, and do not have many things in common. Yes, they feature strong women, but that is about it..

3,21/5. Not the kind of stories I had hoped for. Some were good but didn't really fit to the theme.
My favorites were the ones by Lawrence Block, Megan Lindholm, and Megan Abbot. The one by George RR Martin is a historical account of a fight for the iron throne. There are dragons and you’d think it would be exciting, but no. It was dry and disappointing and I didn’t finish it. It was a snoozer.
