As usual, a good scandinavian thriller with a very complex story in the background.
The writer holds a lot of different ties and stories to only reveal at the end how it is all connected. However, she keeps your interest going and there were moments I really had to keep myself from looking further in the book to get some answers right away.
Very enjoyable is the use of the recurring characters. The setting in this series is allways the same place ( little town in Sweden/police office) and a lot happens to the characters connected to the police office. While this is often the case in series, in this series it is a prominent feature. Not only the crime story is interesting, but the evolution of the other characters is a story on its own

A young couple fixing up an old house on an island shouldn't be that interesting, but it is because this is the place that was once a boarding where the entire family vanished except for a toddler who was found wandering alone. Now the toddler is back as an adult. Her name is Ebba and she has taken possession of the house which is part of her inheritance. She and her husband are fixing it up with the hopes of making it a bed and breakfast. They recently lost a child and neither of them are able to work things out. As always, Lackberg ties the themes together. Her younger sister, Anna, is also mourning the loss of a child and is having difficulty in relating to her partner, Dan. In a previous book she had killed her abusive partner in self defense. She also lost the baby she and Dan had conceived and is mourning that as well. Erica, meanwhile, the main character along with her husband, detective Patric Hedstrom, is busy with her writing and her three children. When she learns that the toddler who was left behind is back, she wants to meet her. We also meet the boys who were at the house when it was a boarding school. There are multiple story lines here including the boys who are now men, their continuing relationship because of what ties them together. It's quite a story. I recommend it highly!

Camila nunca desilude.
