I'd give this 5 stars if Anna didn't annoy the ever-loving crap out of me. Towards the end, I found myself skimming over her parts and feeling sorry for everyone that interacted with her, and finally cheering when she (spoiler alert!) threw herself in front of the train. Levin was just wonderful, more of him please!

If you can save only a few books to take on a deserted island, this is one of the books you take.

Beautifully written saga of a mentally ill woman in a terminally diseased society.
