This book is a love child of Jim Steranko and Frank Miller. The story is sort of a trope, old grizzled spy veteran comes out of retirement to kill a bunch of bad guys. That's pretty much it. I would've given this three stars if it wasn't for the gorgeous art. The art is well...incredible. It's abstract with numerous angles and shades among the detailed drawings. Not only that but the color red is used for a purpose in this book. blood, violence, emotions, sounds, they all have a reason to be colored in red. Definitely a re-read for the art itself a real page turner.

It jumps right into the action.
The story describes a man who is a huge tough badass assassin that no one can beat no matter the odds. It is a bit too convenient, the way everything always seems to work out in his favor, but oh well. The colors scheme of having everything black and white with only the red for addressing blood, mm ok.

It is not the best of plotlines, some parts were confusing because of the lack of dialog and some scenes confused me because was unsure what the hell was supposed to be happening... but still it is the type of stories you can pick up for a nice quick read if you like a lot of blood and violence.

Not a masterpiece exactly but it still something to pick up, it definitely is not too time-consuming so a very good choice in that regard.

Sooooo much better than the movie, but the movie is SHIT. Just cut out everything except Mads, and it would have been decent. But everything that wasn't Mads? SHIT. Absolute shit.

The artwork really saved this one for me. It was a pretty average, basic spy/assassin story, so not too much to be excited about. My husband swears the movie adds and flushes outs plot points and is worth watching even if the comic fell short for me.
