It was all going so well until they started to turn into birds. Who wouldn't take the chance to turn into a bird?! Come ON Al.

I loved this book as a kid.

Also, it caused me to develop a nose itch that's lasted twenty years, and is still going strong. Yep.

I can see why this book won the Caldecott medal. It has fantastic illustrations. The story of Al and his dog Eddie, trying on a new life style. But they eventually realize that a big life change is not all it's cracked up to be and that sometimes, what you have is all you need.
