Should have known I had a thing for alien romance when I read this at the age of 16
WHISPERS IN THE STARS is a futuristic romance with an uber alpha male taken to the extreme. As Commander of the Galactic Guard, Logan must marry Zara, priestess and ruler of Nubria. He is selfish in his relationship with Zara, narrow in his thoughts about Nubria and an all-around unlikeable guy.
Logan comes from a world of soldiers who know little else other than fighting. Our heroine lives on an unusually peaceful planet with a simple creed. Faith and trust are expected from its citizens and they honor these beliefs. The council that controls this area of the solar system requires Logan to rule as king, something unheard of up to this point. Nubria was always lead by women with men as their consorts.
You will soon see that our hero and heroine are polar opposites. Zara seldom lashed out at Logan's controlling behavior. She felt she needed to be patient so he could learn to love her and accept her convictions. The story contained little originality with this situation repeating itself over and over. The romance moved slowly and, except for those readers who enjoy rehashing the sex scenes (there are plenty!), there is very little substance to this book. I honestly wish I could say something encouraging but I can't. I made it to the end expecting it to get better but it didn't. If you want futuristic romances with more excitement and better substance to the story try Jane's Warlord by Angela Knight or Finder's Keepers by Linnea Sinclair.
