I got this on a whim, curious to extend my love of Star Trek in novelization form, and I was so thrilled that it met expectations. I grew up watching TNG and Voyager with my dad, so seeing the characters in a new light, with inner monologues is very insightful and valuable to a long time fan. Highly recommend to Star Trek lovers out there!

Also, I'd decided to try this book because I recently read [b:Hella|48499839|Hella|David Gerrold|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1577250185l/48499839._SY75_.jpg|73811247] by David Gerrold, who was a screenwriter for Star Trek (TOS, animated, and TNG). I enjoyed his writing style and figured that combined with Star Trek was a guarantee.

The novelization of the first Star Trek: The Next Enterprise episode. A pretty quick read and gives you a bit more insight into background of each character, but very little.

I love Star Trek and TNG especially but as nice as it is to read a novelization of the pilot episode this loses a star for the obligatory ‘80s sexism.

This is an interesting novel. David Gerrold worked with Roddenberry and Fontana during the conception and development of TNG. This novel provides some tantalizing character details about backstory the writers had intended for the new crew. Some of them would quickly become anachronistic because of happenings on the series.

A great novelization of the first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. So much of the show's subtext is just text on the page, and I enjoyed getting glimpses of other characters' perspectives.

Here we have a novelization of a not that great episode.  I'm of two minds here.  On the one hand it was nice to see some details fleshed out.  On the other hand, slowing down the story to this degree really makes me see how the plot here really doesn't work in a way I had never noticed just watching the episode.

A novelization of the first TNG episode. There are some obvious differences that they changed later during filming of the show. Riker goes by Bill in this, but Will in the show. Data’s origin is different. Things happen in a different order and I definitely prefer the tv version of that better. But what I like better in the book are the thoughts of the characters. A fun look into how they think/perceive each other.

This is the first time I’ve read an adaptation of a tv episode and I didn’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I did! It’s good even though it definitely shows it’s age at certain times. I loved reading the added thoughts and character moments in this, that was the best part, especially Riker with a towel around his waist
