A bit unusual in parts near the end, a bit graphic for sensitive readers. In line with the series other than that though.

Maybe I was too old for this book, but I felt like all the important, exciting parts were glossed over and the problems were solved too easily. There could have been much more plot in this book.

Somewhere along the way Brian became a bit of a know-it-all. He knows more than the guides, he thinks Jack London is a sissy, and so on. I enjoyed the story, but it felt pretty unnecessary.

We featured this book on a special episode of the All the Books Show: https://soundcloud.com/allthebooks/episode-238-hatchets-at-the-ready-the-gary-paulsen-spotlight
