CIA Agent Catherine Ling is happy that her son Luke is getting better adjusted after she rescued him from a brutal kidnapper. Luke had been lost to Catherine for nine long years. Keeping him safe is her highest priority. However, when she finds out that one of her friends was murdered, a plot is soon revealed that anyone close to her is now in danger.

Catherine scrambles to protect those she loves, but her reach only goes so far. Everyone that has touched Catherine's life in one way or another is now in danger. This exciting book in the Catherine Ling series has crossover characters from the Eve Duncan series as Eve, lover Joe and adopted daughter Jane are very likely in the line of fire. The enigmatic Cameron appears again in this book. He met Catherine previously and had helped her on more than one occasion.

Just as the previous three books in this series, the action is nonstop. There is also a high level of emotion with the tragedy that befalls some in this book. I am totally addicted to this series and to Iris Johansen.

This is the third book in a trilogy. Iris Johansen has filled the book with all my favorite characters. Someone from Catherine Ling's past is killing people she cares about. Three are dead and she has warned those closest to her. Cameron and Hu Chang have brought some of them to Catherine's house to keep them safe. Eve Duncan's daughter Jane was shot and in critical care in the hospital. Eve and Joe bring in Seth Caleb to heal Jane so she can have surgery. Catherine Ling is taunted by the killer. Catherine and Cameron go on the hunt for the killer before he can attack anyone else. This paranormal thriller has several twists and a suspenseful ending.

I liked it but not as much as previous books. I don't know if I'm tired of the characters or if having surgery in the middle of the book made me have a hard time concentrating on it, but it was just OK.

I love the Catherine Ling books. This one is no exception. She plays by her own rules and seldom loses. This is an action packed thriller and highly recommended for the suspense thriller fan
