A national treasure for the Philippines. A good entry point on understanding the culture and history of the Philippines under colonial rule. Follow up with Filibusterismo
This book has been on my required reading list since high school. This book is tragic and breath taking at the same time. It speaks of suffering and injustice faced by my ancestors. It wasn't perfect but I can't help but admire the author's writing and the emotion that echoes throughout the pages of the book.

It gets really good in the last 100 pages or so, but it's a pretty big slog with a smattering of interesting stuff before that.
