This book could have been so much better. Like many reviewers I quickly got annoyed, and skimmed, the strange slang used by the author throughout. I felt the writing style was aimed at a much younger audience even though the book itself wasn't. It was cringy, almost like someone trying to hard to be young while completely getting it all wrong and all the the pop culture references are going to age very quickly.

However once you get over the weird writing style the stories are inspiring, heartbreaking, frustrating and humbling and that is why I kept reading and will return to reread about many of these people. I wish the author had stopped trying so hard and just let the stories shine on their own.

This book should have been better. The people whose stories were told here deserved better. The writing was arguably some of the most obnoxious writing I've ever seen.

Fabulous short essay-like chapters told in a really engaging manner. Highly recommend as an introduction in feminist literature or non-fiction in general.
