The ambient dialogue of the generic IS members, especially at the beginning, was really incongruent with the tone in the rest of the book. It almost came off as goofy and made me think of tracts, which isn't really a comparison you want to make w/a graphic novel focusing on the struggles of people creating a democracy and surviving war and genocide. Personally would have put actual quotes or no dialogue for those bits.
That said, it was otherwise quite good. For all of the horrors the people of Northern and Eastern Syria have faced, the author focuses on showing their resilience and hope for the future.

Graphic: Death, Genocide, Gun violence, Grief, and Religious bigotry
Moderate: Misogyny
Minor: Child death, Domestic abuse, Sexism, and Blood
