I can mostly forgive the schlocky elements of this book that are attributable to the era in which it was published. We get it; sex is scary and corrupting, alcohol is bad, and lesbians have no self control.

Even without those weaknesses, this is still not a compelling book. All of the characters are unlikeable, and I didn't particularly care if they completed their mission or made it out alive. Partially because I wasn't invested in their survival, no part of this story was even remotely scary. The spooky phenomena and various attacks were extremely meh. The writing was only ok.

There are other haunted house books that do such a better job. I recommend seeking those out.

More gross than it is scary, but with enough creepy moments to keep reading. The ending felt rushed.
