This was too turgid to finish. The characters are ridiculous, the prose is treacle, and for a book nominally about the last man it takes a book of bland future-elite drama to get to the promise of the title.

This book moves slowly and is damn long. I'm glad I stuck with it but it may be too much for some folks. Thoughtful, character driven, emotional... but it's no Frankenstein.

“I did not love; but I was devoured by a restless wish to be something to others.” easily the #1 sentence to hear from the man who is literally doomed to be the last person on the entire earth

I love Mary Shelley’s male character friendships that are rich in the way I only ever see female friendships built. Is he even your homie if you don’t kiss the ground he walks on?
